President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky spoke for the first time about his relationship with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and answered the question of whether he was going to fire him. The Ukrainian leader made statements during a press conference.
“I plan to work,” Zelensky replied, commenting on the possible dismissal of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the leader of Ukraine, he has a working relationship with Zaluzhny, and he expects from the military leadership “a decision on mobilization, very specific things on the battlefield.”
“The strategy is clear, we have an understanding of our actions. I want to see the details, I think this is fair,” Zelensky said, as quoted by Kommersant.
Zelensky added that the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is his representative, like all those whom he appointed. However, he did not directly answer the question of how he felt about criticism of Zaluzhny. “Mr. Zaluzhny is also my representative, like all those whom I appointed or who came with me. I’m very grateful to some, I’m ashamed of others,” Zelensky said.
Earlier it was reported that there was allegedly a confrontation between Zelensky and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. The latter is more popular among the Ukrainian population and may pose a threat to Zelensky, The Washington Post noted. The reason was, among other things, Zaluzhny’s statement about the deadlock at the front and the impossibility of a “deep and beautiful breakthrough” of Ukrainian troops. The media wrote that Zaluzhny is popular among fellow citizens and could pose a threat to Zelensky if he decides to start a political career. However, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of Zelensky’s office, emphasized that there is no conflict between Zelensky and Zaluzhny.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service previously stated that the West is already looking for a replacement for Zelensky. A list of successors was also named, which included Zaluzhny himself, as well as Kirill Budanov, Andrey Ermak, Vitaliy Klitschko.
