At the XXVI St. Petersburg Assembly of Young Scientists and Specialists, the winners of city competitions were awarded

The ceremonial meeting of the XXVI St. Petersburg Assembly of Young Scientists and Specialists was held in the Northern capital, which brought together more than 900 participants.

“This large-scale forum brings together young talented St. Petersburg residents – those who will develop domestic science based on innovation, strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty, and modernize the economy. Many of you are already making a significant contribution to strengthening the scientific and educational potential of our city,” Governor Alexander Beglov noted in his greeting to the Assembly participants. His address was read by the Vice-Governor of the Northern capital, Vladimir Knyaginin.

St. Petersburg is one of the largest scientific and educational centers in Russia, where more than 10% of the country’s scientific potential is concentrated, and 19% of the economically active population is employed in the field of science and professional education.

The formation of a powerful sector of the knowledge economy is the main strategic goal of the Northern capital, noted in the governor’s greeting. In this regard, much attention is paid to research activities and technical creativity, and the realization of the abilities of the younger generation. St. Petersburg is making its worthy contribution to solving the tasks set for Russian regions by the President of Russia within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology announced in the Russian Federation. “Supporting talented youth is an investment in the future of our city, the key to its further prosperity,” Beglov emphasizes.

The Assembly is the largest event that allows you to demonstrate the best scientific projects of young researchers in the city and popularize their achievements in various fields. During the meeting, the winners of several scientific and educational competitions, which have been held in the Northern capital since 1994, were awarded. Among them are 320 scholarship recipients from the government of St. Petersburg, who have demonstrated outstanding abilities and achieved significant success in educational, research, social, cultural, creative and sports activities (including recipients of personal scholarships of outstanding figures of the 20th century – Galina Starovoitova, Andrei Petrov, Daniil Granin and Zhores Alferov, students from among orphans and children left without parental care also received scholarships); 440 winners of a grant competition for undergraduate and graduate students of city and federal universities; 210 winners of the competitive selection for the provision of subsidies to young scientists and candidates of science.

Assembly events include round tables. During the year, four meetings were held, during which winners were determined in the fields of exact, natural, medical and technical sciences.

“Our project is aimed at developing mini-pills for the treatment of arterial hypertension. Within its framework, mini-tablets of amlodipine were developed, which are a component of the polypill we are developing for personalized therapy of arterial hypertension. A polypill is a capsule that will be filled with mini-tablets according to a doctor’s prescription. This way we get a personalized medicinal formula for each patient. This is a new development for our market, and in foreign markets there are only fixed forms of polypill, and there is no practice of individual selection of a drug combination for the treatment of a specific patient. And the support of the government of St. Petersburg in the person of the Committee on Science and Higher Education was of great importance – both from a financial point of view and for recognizing the significance of our research for St. Petersburg and the country as a whole,” the winner of the round table on healthcare told RosBalt, postgraduate student of the St. Petersburg State Chemical and Pharmaceutical University Ksenia Tserkovnaya.

It should be noted that the government of St. Petersburg managed to achieve significant success in the implementation of the National Healthcare Project. City hospitals are constantly expanding the range of high-tech medical care provided to residents. In addition, St. Petersburg medicine is increasingly introducing personalized principles. The city’s pharmaceutical cluster is also actively developing; today it is one of the largest in the country. There are 24 pharmaceutical enterprises in the Northern capital. In the spring, President Vladimir Putin opened the second stage of the Pharmasyntez-Nord manufacturing plant for socially important drugs, which will additionally be able to produce 31 international non-proprietary items. The conclusion of the first offset contract in the region with the R-Pharm company was also a breakthrough. The implementation of the project will allow the city to receive not only the necessary medicines from the list of essential drugs, but also significant savings, as well as new jobs.

By decision of the Governor of St. Petersburg, from 2024, personal scholarships from the city government for university students have been increased from 2 to 7 thousand rubles, for students of secondary vocational education institutions – from 1.6 to 4 thousand rubles. City awards to the winners of the grant competition for students of industry and academic institutions will increase from 20 to 50 thousand rubles, for graduate students – from 50 to 100 thousand rubles (the total amount of funding for awards from 2024 will be 33 million rubles). The volume of subsidies for young scientists and candidates of science will be increased 1.5 times (from 29.4 million rubles to 40.4 million rubles), while the maximum size of one subsidy for young scientists will increase from 100 to 150 thousand rubles, for young candidates of science – from 150 to 200 thousand rubles.

Within the framework of the Assembly, an exhibition of the achievements of youth in the scientific and educational sphere of St. Petersburg was held, where. students and young researchers present their own developments – experimental models of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, an aircraft control simulator, a mock-up of a launch vehicle, textile samples, design mock-ups, innovative medical devices and installations and much more.
