After the early parliamentary elections that took place on December 18, his coalition “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia must not stop” received an absolute majority of seats – 129 out of 250. The main competitors – the association of opposition forces “Serbia against violence” – received 65 seats, and the third place The coalition “Ivica Dacic – Prime Minister of Serbia” took 18 seats. RTVI writes about this.
Thus, Vučić and his party will continue to govern the country and will play an important role in US and EU diplomacy in the Balkans. They strive to bring Serbia into the European Union, but do not recognize an independent Kosovo. They also do not plan to introduce sanctions against the Russian Federation.
In previous elections, Vučić resigned as leader of his party, but still actively supported it. During the 44 days of the election campaign, he appeared frequently in the media and his portraits were everywhere in Belgrade. Critics say he used administrative resources. The opposition also accuses the authorities of a number of violations on election day.
Observers report violations such as bribery of voters and the presence of unauthorized persons at polling stations. One group of bystanders was attacked and their vehicle was smashed with baseball bats.
After the elections, the process of creating a new government begins, which may continue until the spring of next year. The opposition will also try to enter the government.
