Golikova instructed the regions to tighten control over the observance of antiquated restrictions

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova instructed the regional authorities on the eve of the New Year to strengthen control over the implementation of antiquated restrictions. She gave the order at a meeting of the Russian government with President Vladimir Putin, TASS reports.

Recall that earlier at the same meeting, Golikova warned about the risk of further penetration into the Russian Federation during the New Year holidays of the omicron-strain of covid. According to her, the risk will increase, since many Russians will go abroad on vacation, from where they can bring the omicron. Now in the Russian Federation, 16 infected with the new strain have been identified, they all flew from South Africa, the disease in all is mild.

“The regions have been instructed to strengthen control over the observance of restrictive measures and sanitary requirements in crowded places, to ensure readiness for the pre-holiday and long New Year holidays,” Golikova said. She noted that this order is aimed at preventing a potential increase in the incidence and, as a result, the burden on the health care system.

The new strain COVID-19 B.1.1.529 was discovered in November in southern Africa and has already been identified in several European countries, as well as in Hong Kong, Israel and Australia. According to experts, it is dangerous because it has “an extremely large number of mutations” and may be slightly susceptible to vaccines.

Earlier today it was reported that the Chumakov Center began developing another vaccine against covid – this time using insects.
