It has become a habit in many Russian families to drink sweet tea for breakfast. However, it turned out that this is actually harmful to health, nutritionists say, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“You should absolutely not have sweet tea or coffee for breakfast,” emphasized nutritionist Elena Solomatina. According to her, when drinking this drink, there is a sharp rise in glucose, then a release of insulin, as a result you will very quickly want to eat, and again something sweet, otherwise performance will decrease.
Her colleague, nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg, also believes that drinking sweet tea or compote on an empty stomach should be avoided, Sputnik radio reports. According to him, all drinks except water can harm the body. Thus, tea with sugar can lead to a sharp jump in blood sugar levels, and fermented milk drinks before breakfast can irritate the stomach. However, you can drink green tea with milk, sometimes coffee with milk is allowed if your stomach is healthy, the doctor noted. He added that juices, compote or soda are very irritating to the gastrointestinal tract. “Everything we drink on an empty stomach reaches the intestines very quickly and begins to be absorbed there very quickly,” the doctor explained, as quoted by the Izvestia newspaper.
