In Moscow, under the snow onslaught of an active cyclonic whirlwind, called “Vanya” by German meteorologists, 11 mm of precipitation has already fallen, and up to 13 mm in the region. This was reported by the leading employee of the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus.
According to him, the cyclone continues to cover the black soil and central regions of European Russia with snow. Heavier precipitation than in the capital region was observed in the Bryansk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Voronezh and Kursk regions, the specialist noted in his Telegram channel.
The forecaster said that the daily record for the height of snow cover has been updated in the capital. So, at the weather station of the city at VDNKh, 38 cm fell. “The previous achievement dated back to 1919 and amounted to 33 cm,” Leus wrote.
He also predicts that precipitation in Moscow is expected to weaken around noon and stop after 17-18 hours.
In turn, the leading specialist of the Phobos center Tishkovets noted that a fifth of the monthly precipitation fell in Moscow. “Moscow has snowdrifts that have never happened on December 15 in the almost 150-year history of regular meteorological measurements,” he pointed out.
Earlier, meteorologist Leus predicted the first thaw of this winter in Moscow.
