Dynamo from St. Petersburg plans to play in the first league of domestic football

President of Dynamo St. Petersburg Konstantin Samsonov spoke about the club’s plans for the near future.

“Our goal is to reach the first league. Today there is a multi-stage system in our Russian football, so we do not have the opportunity to win the championship in our group and immediately enter the first league directly. There are two more steps ahead of us – the second league “A”, there are “Silver” and “Gold”. Thus, ten teams each. It is necessary to go through all these steps. We will definitely work on this and try to improve in a sporting manner from season to season,” Odds quotes Samsonov.

It is still far from reaching the first league: according to the results of the autumn part of the 2023/24 season, Dynamo took ninth place in the second group of division “B” of the second league. After 17 matches, the St. Petersburg team, led by Dmitry Belorukov, scored 23 points.

In Leningrad, historically there were two teams from the “elite” of Soviet football – Dynamo and the later joined Zenit. In the very first game of the very first national championship, Dynamo Leningrad beat Lokomotiv with a score of 3:1. But it never rose higher than fifth place, and after 1963 it never returned to the major leagues. New success occurred only in recent years, when Dynamo St. Petersburg moved to Sochi and renamed FC Sochi. The current Dynamo is not the legal successor of the previous club, created in 1922.
