On the first day of the restoration of the checkpoints on the Russian-Finnish border – “Vaalimaa” (“Torfyanovka”) in the Leningrad region and “Niirala” (“Vyartsilya”) in Karelia – migrants who cross the border to seek asylum in Finland, writes RBC with reference to Finnish media.
Thus, 24 people submitted relevant applications at the Niirala border crossing, two applicants – at the Vaalimaa checkpoint. Border guards said they would take “necessary measures” in response to the allegations.
A Finnish citizen, with whom journalists spoke at the border in Niirala, said that in Petrozavodsk he saw a group of migrants in cars heading to the border from the Russian side. According to him, we are talking about 6-7 cars.
It is also reported that in Telegram groups dedicated to trips to Finland, photographs of cars that transport bicycles are posted. Journalists conclude that these could also be potential asylum seekers.
Let us recall that in November the Finnish government decided to close all nine checkpoints on the Russian-Finnish border until December 13. The Finnish authorities explained their decision by the influx of refugees from the Middle East and Africa, which Russia was accused of organizing.
