A bus from a transport cooperative overturned at noon on Tuesday 14 in the Totoras sector, on the Ambato-Pelileo road, in Tungurahua.
In the scene, several destroyed trees and a utility pole were observed in the middle of the road while the windows and windshield of unit 28 of the Flota Pelileo cooperative were also destroyed, as a result of the strong impact.
According to the first police inquiries, the Flota Pelileo cooperative bus lost track, collided with several trees and was partially turned over in the middle of the road.
Police, residents of the area and drivers of other cars collaborated in the rescue of the bus passengers and in the collection of belongings of those affected that ended up scattered on the road.
Second Lieutenant Andrés Salazar, head of the Tungurahua Road Accidentology Unit, confirmed that ten injured people were injured and there were no deaths at the site.
All those affected were transferred to various health centers in the city of Ambate.
At the site, members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Police began the investigations and collected evidence.
For his part, Colonel Jorge Rodríguez, head of the Ambato Sur district of the National Police, confirmed that the unit was heading from Ambato to Tena.
One of the passengers considered that the unit was moving at excess speed and was ‘running around’ with another bus supposedly to get passengers. At the time of the incident, the user entrusted himself to God, he said.
Likewise, the police chief commented that, according to the versions compiled, presumably the bus was speeding with another unit before ending up partially overturned on the road. However, the personnel of the Tungurahua Road Accidentology unit collects all the evidence to determine the specific circumstances of what happened.
Residents of the place reported that the driver of the unit was not in the area when they assisted those affected and also asked the drivers to circulate with caution in the sector that has several curves.
Rodríguez added that uniformed personnel went to the medical homes to verify the conditions in which the wounded are found. (I)
