Military support to Ukraine needs to be reduced or stopped altogether. This statement was made by the far-right politician Geert Wilders, who won the elections in the Netherlands, writes Bloomberg.
“We believe that we should not provide military support to Ukraine until we can defend our own country,” he said during a parliamentary debate.
At the same time, other parties – “New Social Contract” and “Farmer-Civic Movement” – at the meeting expressed doubts about Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and the issue of additional financial support. At the same time, the Netherlands is considered a key ally of Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, the media writes. Thus, Amsterdam supplied Kyiv with air defense equipment and led an initiative to train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16.
It should be noted that discussions about reducing aid to Kyiv intensified in the Netherlands after the victory of Wilders’ Freedom Party in the parliamentary elections. Politico noted that in the Dutch parliament, none of the political forces was able to obtain a majority, so the participants face a difficult path ahead of negotiations on creating a coalition. But if Wilders does get the prime minister’s chair after the formation of the government, he may turn out to be “a nightmare for Brussels.”
Earlier, The Economist wrote that three European countries are already planning to stop aid to Kyiv.
