Confrontations and distance between the authorities only give an advantage to organized crime. The mayor of Guayaquil, Aquiles Alvarez, said on December 13 that we must work as a team to defeat those who commit crimes.

It’s correct. The government, legislature, judiciary, mayors, prefectures must build bridges to work for peace and justice. Civil society: trade unions, academia, citizens, are not excluded from seeking solutions.

Political and personal differences have no place when it comes to the common good. Dissensions between those who have a duty to serve the country – because they pledged to do so when they took office – weaken any action they take themselves.

Experts have already said it: Ecuador is facing organized crime and only unity will strengthen the processes against crime.

Government Minister Mónica Palencia confirmed that the Fénix plan is underway, but also that international cooperation and funds are being sought for this fight. The need for this was not a secret and it is positive that you were informed about it.

The attack in Guasmo targeted Los Lagartos, killing four children

It will also be positive if there are approaches with different officials to coordinate the work, to try to work together, organize and achieve results beyond each ego.

Teamwork suits everyone. Meetings that could not be held for any reason must be rescheduled and points of agreement and cooperation defined.

The commitment of the state and society is essential. Guayaquil looks deserted at night, the country’s economy is affected by crime, robbery and extortion. Citizens and the government know all this. Now is the time to build the team we also know is necessary and seek peace, rebuild the social fabric and resolutely execute the plans. In times of crisis, unity is essential in order not to continue to leave open the way for those who commit crimes. (OR)
