The most expensive house of the year in London now has an owner; Who is he and how much did he pay?

The executive director of the Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine producer in the world, Adar Poonawalla, has bought the most expensive house sold this year in London for 138 million pounds (more than 160 million euros or US$ 173.2 million), according to British media.

The address is Aberconway Housea mansion of more than 2,000 square meters located in the Mayfair neighborhood, near London’s Hyde Park.

With your purchase, Poonawalla has made it the most expensive house of the year in London and the second most expensive in history in the city, according to the Financial Times newspaper.

The house, which was the headquarters of the Rank Group gambling company, according to the Wetherell real estate agency – which was in charge of its sale and conversion to residential use – was built in the 1920s.

Until now, it was in the hands of the Polish businesswoman Dominika Kulczyk, who acquired it in 2020 for 57 million pounds (just over 68 million euros at that time), as reported by The Times newspaper.

Adar Poonawallaknown by the nickname ‘prince of vaccines‘, is the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, a medicine and vaccine company founded by his father in 1966, according to its website.

In 2011, he inherited the position and took control of the company’s daily operations, with the goal of “reduce the price of vaccines to make them affordable for developing communities”, according to the website.
