RGSU proposed making a medical certificate mandatory for admission

Representatives of the Russian State Social University (RGSU) made a proposal to make it mandatory to provide a medical certificate when submitting documents from applicants. According to the first vice-rector of the university, Jomart Aliyev, currently a health certificate is required only for admission to areas related to pedagogy, medicine and high-risk industries, according to a government decree dated August 14, 2013.

However, the proposal sparked debate, with Aliyev expressing concerns about the increased risk of illness among students who do not provide a medical certificate. He noted that such an approach could entail a risk of spreading infections such as tuberculosis, and limits the future work activity of students with mental illnesses, RT writes.

Aliyev emphasized that such questions about the health of students do not exclude social adaptation programs for those who face serious and incurable diseases. However, he emphasized that adjustments to the educational track should occur after graduation, and not while studying at a university.

Current legislation provides that a student with a serious illness can only be expelled on his own initiative. Earlier, the proposal of the director of the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Politics, Anton Orlov, to create uniform rules for providing discounts on tuition fees for students who successfully cope with their studies also aroused public interest.
