“Not like a boy”: figure skater Alexei Yagudin appreciated the IOC’s decision on the Russians

Olympic figure skating champion Alexei Yagudin commented on the decision of the International Sports Committee (IOC), which allowed Russians to participate in the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status.

Such a decision by the IOC looks like a mockery, Yagudin said in an interview with Sport Express.

He explained that this permission from the IOC does not give anything to many athletes; they have not had time to pass the selection process, because the qualifications for many sports for the Olympics have already ended. “They also banned everyone who supports the security forces from going, and our sports system is created in such a way that this is the majority of athletes,” the skater noted, but added that he was waiting for such a decision.

“The guys from the IOC are not acting like boys,” Yagudin emphasized.

Let us remind you that earlier the IOC announced its decision to allow Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris in a neutral status. At the same time, the IOC put forward requirements that athletes must meet and noted that the final decision will be made by sports federations. In particular, the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) has already stated that it is not lifting the suspension of Russian track and field athletes, so they will not be represented at the 2024 Olympic Games.
