Electricity consumption patterns for the months of November and December arrive with higher values, which are not regular for the rest of the year. The responsibility is in the pocket of every user, but this 2023 it goes further and becomes a general problem due to rationalization in the country.

Although the authorities have announced that there will be no cuts for the Christmas and New Year holidays, generational problems remain, and one of the citizens’ demands is savings. However, it is contradictory to note that public and private establishments light trees and lights late into the night.

Traditionally, December is full of light not only in Ecuador, but the citizens of that country are suffering the consequences of the crisis in the power sector, so raising awareness about solutions suits everyone.

In the Southern Regional Electric Company (Loja), they chose an electricity efficiency campaign to educate citizens about reducing consumption. Imitation of initiatives of this type is practical.

Canceling Christmas celebrations would be nonsense, but you can establish lighting schedules, reduce them and obviously reach for low consumption items. This applies to public and private institutions and companies. The example can be followed in neighborhoods, citadels, urbanizations and homes.

Christmas is not reduced by small savings, but reflects solidarity, cooperation to alleviate the crisis that leaves great losses.

The government, for its part, proposed solutions for the power sector, such as better planning to reduce rationing; recovery of the Ecuadorian thermal park; employment of the new generation; promote self-sufficiency in industries and energy efficiency campaigns. The general aspiration is that this is working and that rationing will soon be permanently suspended. (OR)
