The jury in Moscow found the defendants in the “Argentine cocaine case” guilty, but deserving of leniency

In Moscow, the jury found four defendants in the criminal case on the supply of cocaine from Argentina to Russia and European countries. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Dorogomilovsky District Court.

They clarified that they are talking about the defendants Andrei Kovalchuk, Vladimir Kalmykov, Ishimir Khudzhamov and Ali Abyanov.

However, the jury believes they deserve leniency.

Earlier, during the meeting, the prosecutor stressed that the guilt of the defendants was fully proven. It is expected that on December 16, the prosecution will name the terms of the sentence, which it considers fair.

Recall that the criminal case on Argentine cocaine caused a wide response. The special services of Russia and Argentina intercepted suitcases with 389 kilograms of cocaine, which were stored on the territory of the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires. The Russian diplomats themselves told the siloviki about the find. As part of the case in Moscow, Vladimir Kalmykov, Ishtimir Khudzhamov and Ali Abyanov were arrested, and later the alleged organizer of the smuggling, Andrei Kovalchuk, who was extradited from Germany.

The defendants argued that Kovalchuk “misled them” by offering to earn money. According to them, the man introduced himself as an employee of the embassy, then as an employee of the special services.

The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that Kovalchuk never worked in a ministry or in Russian diplomatic missions abroad.
