The Russian President went on a Middle East tour. On December 6, he arrived in the United Arab Emirates, and then plans to travel to Saudi Arabia.
Putin’s plane landed in Abu Dhabi, where the Russian President is scheduled to hold negotiations with the country’s leader Mohammed Al Nahyan as part of delegations, as well as one-on-one.
Assistant to the Russian leader Yuri Ushakov spoke about the purposes of the visit, Vedomosti newspaper reports. He noted that the visits “are important and relevant in connection with the aggravated situation in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation, and the outbreak of a humanitarian catastrophe.” In addition, Iran and Saudi Arabia have received an invitation to join BRICS in 2024, and this will also be the topic of negotiations.
Ushakov added that cooperation between Russia and the UAE in the economic sphere is on the rise. The Emirates are Moscow’s main foreign policy partner in the region.
In Saudi Arabia, where Putin will travel from the UAE, he will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed Al Saud. It is planned to “substantively discuss cooperation in the field of energy” with the Saudi authorities, including interaction within OPEC+. In addition to energy, the situation in the Middle East, in the Gaza Strip, and settlement in Syria, Yemen and Sudan will also be discussed with the Saudi leadership.
According to the work schedule, this is Putin’s fourth international trip in two months – in October he visited Kyrgyzstan and China, in November – in Kazakhstan.
