The “Wish Tree” charity event has started in St. Petersburg for the ninth time. As Governor Alexander Beglov noted in his Telegram channel, this is perhaps the kindest annual event.
“I took 5 cards from the Christmas tree, each with a dream of a New Year’s miracle from a child growing up in a family facing a difficult life situation. No matter how much we look for systemic solutions to improve the lives of families with children, there will always be cases when at the moment, right now, the family cannot put the gift that their child ordered under the Christmas tree,” the governor noted. — In order for every little St. Petersburg resident to have a reason for sincere, carefree children’s joy on New Year’s and Christmas days, this campaign was invented 9 years ago. It is these moments from childhood that are remembered many, many years later, warming the hearts of already fully grown, accomplished people.”
The three postcards the governor received were from St. Petersburg children: seven-year-old Vera asked for an electronic construction set, eight-year-old Alice for an easel and a set of acrylic paints, and eight-year-old Volodya for a large robot. The governor will also grant the wishes of two eight-year-old Mariupol residents: he will give Diana a talking doll, and Nikita an encyclopedia about the countries of the world.
“I admire the kindness and responsiveness of our residents. Many desires have already been sorted out. But I know for sure that there remains a need for sweet gifts,” the governor noted.
Alexander Beglov asked St. Petersburg residents to join the action. This can be done by following the instructions on the website fond-angelov.ru/derevo and on the wish cards.
As the Smolny press service clarified, cards with more than a thousand children’s wishes were placed on 23 Christmas trees. They are installed in Smolny, in the Nevsky Town Hall, in the legislative assembly, in all district administrations. From December 9, they will be installed at fairs on Manezhnaya and Palace Squares. If there are no more postcards left, you can contact the organizers through the foundation’s website, who will tell you what else you can give to the children. Gifts will be presented at festive matinees by Father Frost and Snow Maiden
