St. Petersburg continues to eliminate the consequences of heavy snowfalls.
As RosBalt was informed by the press service of Smolny, 896 units of equipment and 907 people are involved in snow removal work on the avenues, streets and squares of the Northern capital, and 270 vehicles and 928 specialists in green areas. During the day, 38 thousand cubic meters of snow were disposed of in the city.
It is noted that utility workers are taking advantage of the relative calm in the weather and are actively engaged in removing snow debris that has formed along the edges of highways. In addition, road workers have intensified their work on treating highways and streets with anti-icing materials. In Smolny they said that a sand-salt mixture is used for these purposes, which is the most effective and safe.
In turn, gardeners tidy up the paths and areas. To combat ice in St. Petersburg parks, squares and boulevards, only sand and sometimes granite chips are used.
Vice-Governor of the Northern Capital Evgeny Razumishkin personally monitored the progress of cleaning public transport stops. According to him, several shortcomings were identified that need to be corrected in future work. “But most of the stops are in satisfactory condition,” the official noted.
Road enterprises remove about 40 thousand cubic meters of snow from city streets per day, and over the past week its amount reached 220 thousand cubic meters. More than 900 cubic meters of garbage were also removed to landfills. It was possible to cope with such volumes thanks to the consolidation of efforts: equipment from the construction, energy, and transport infrastructure development committees was involved in the cleaning work.
Earlier, the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, ordered the creation of conditions so that the daily life of the city would not stop due to snowfall.
