The European Union cannot agree on the allocation of the previously promised 50 billion euros to Ukraine. The Financial Times newspaper wrote about this on December 3, citing sources.
The media is developing the assumption, spread the day before by The Economist, that they want to deprive Kyiv of money due to the strengthening of the positions of the far right in European countries, as well as the budget crisis in Germany. It is noted that the disputes intensified on the eve of the EU summit in Brussels on December 14–15. It is emphasized that the EU member countries are far from reaching an agreement on replenishing the bloc’s joint budget. And given the fact that the far-right won the elections in the Netherlands, and in Germany the court refused to allow the government to obtain new loans, disagreements in Ukraine are growing.
The final decision will most likely be made before the summit, the publication adds. The newspaper notes that the promised 50 billion euros will include grants, investments in “strategic technologies” and funds to pay off interest on joint EU loans.
Earlier it was reported that at least three countries are preparing to cut or completely stop funding for Ukraine, as well as to deprive Kyiv of the opportunity to become a member of the EU.
