The State Duma proposed introducing a tax on the absence of children. The idea was put forward by a member of the budget and taxes committee, Evgeny Fedorov, writes TV channel “360”.
According to him, it is necessary to stimulate the birth rate in the country in different ways. One of them could be the introduction of a tax on childlessness following the example of the USSR. The deputy believes that in Soviet times this “was not bad.”
He emphasized that it is necessary to stimulate the birth of children in general, including through maternal capital. A tax on childlessness is required if there is not enough money for this.
However, Fedorov’s initiative has already been rejected by the head of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, Nina Ostanina, writes News.ru. According to her, in modern Russia there are no conditions for introducing a tax on childlessness. She emphasized that before introducing such a measure, the state must provide every citizen with work and housing. “Now we live in a completely different society, a completely different state with a different attitude towards young people and supporting a young family,” Ostanina explained.
Earlier, the head of the supervisory board of the Institute of Demography, Yuri Krupnov, stated that the birth rate in the country can be increased with the help of a tax on small children. He argued that Russia would survive if each family had four children.
