The main task is to bring the city into a neat appearance: work continues in St. Petersburg to eliminate the consequences of the snow cyclone

Today, more than 900 manual workers and about 1,000 pieces of equipment will go out to clean the streets of St. Petersburg, 3,116 janitors and 793 machine operators will be involved in cleaning the courtyards. The press service of the city administration reported this to RosBalt news agency.

Smolny emphasizes that the main task facing utility service specialists is unity in the comprehensive cleanup of areas. Together with the Housing Agency, employees of management companies, municipalities and social enterprises come out to clean neighborhoods.

On behalf of Governor Alexander Beglov, special road construction equipment was involved in cleaning the territories. “Special equipment from related committees is used. It was provided by the Construction Committee, the Energy and Engineering Committee, the State Unitary Enterprise Fuel and Energy Complex of St. Petersburg and the State Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal. Today, both day and night, we have about 200 hired dump trucks and 30 loaders working. This does not count the 850-900 cars that are currently in use throughout the city,” said Egor Pashchenko, director of the St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise “Center”.

“We are actively loading to remove the snow piles formed after the snowfall. Our task by the end of this week, perhaps until the middle of next week, is to bring the city into a neat appearance. Remove the shafts from the central streets, main highways and engage in secondary removal,” Pashchenko noted.

Since the beginning of the snowfall, 120 thousand cubic meters of snow have already been removed from the streets, courtyards and parks of St. Petersburg. Particular attention is paid to social facilities – schools, kindergartens, clinics.

To facilitate the work of all services for cleaning the city, Alexander Beglov recommended that entrepreneurs and company managers transfer employees whose functionality does not require mandatory presence at the workplace to remote work. City authorities also ask St. Petersburg residents to use public transport instead of personal transport whenever possible and to park cars strictly in accordance with the schedule indicated on road signs so as not to interfere with the passage of snow removal equipment.
