During the day, 30,000 cubic meters of snow were removed from St. Petersburg, the press service of Smolny told RosBalt news agency. Authorities say that work to eliminate the consequences of the cyclone is proceeding smoothly.
“The city’s emergency services are equipped with everything necessary and are ready to eliminate their consequences in the shortest possible time in case of violations. To dispose of snow, 18 snow-melting and snow-receiving points of the State Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal of St. Petersburg continue to operate around the clock,” said Vice-Governor Sergei Dregval.
According to road workers, 20 centimeters of rain fell during the cyclone that hit St. Petersburg. Now, first of all, areas near metro stations and avenues are being cleaned. “The priority is the safety of residents and clearing the road surface for traffic. During the day shift, more than 900 manual workers and about 760 pieces of equipment went out to clean city streets. More than 3,500 janitors and about 1,000 machine operators came out to clean the yards,” said Vice-Governor Evgeny Razumishkin.
Eliminating the consequences of heavy snowfall became the topic of an emergency meeting of the city government and the improvement headquarters. Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov ordered to clear roads, roofs and streets of snow as soon as possible.
“The main thing is that there must be interaction and coordinated work with all structures in the district. This applies to both local government and private organizations. There are difficulties with cleaning the internal areas. It is difficult to remove such a large volume completely at once. But first of all, the life support of the city: transport, engineering infrastructure, highways, roads, kindergartens, schools, hospitals,” Beglov emphasized.
The city is cleaned in two shifts: from 8 am to 8 pm and from 8 pm to 8 am. The main work on cleaning streets, sidewalks and public transport stops takes place at night. First, the asphalt is sprinkled with de-icing materials, then heavy traffic helps the reagents to distribute evenly and begin to act, and only after that, when the traffic intensity decreases, the streets are cleared of snow and ice.
The governor noted that all building owners should be involved in cleaning the surrounding areas.
Evgeniy Razumishkin checked the intra-block cleaning in the Petrodvortsovo district. He appealed to car owners not to park their cars on turnings in courtyard areas, as it is difficult for cleaning equipment to pass.
Road workers urge St. Petersburg residents to park their cars according to the schedule indicated on the road signs. This allows you to fully and quickly clean the city at night.
