Heavy snowfall from the capital rushes to St. Petersburg

Heavy snowfall from Moscow is moving towards St. Petersburg. This was announced by the head of the Meteo forecasting center, Alexander Shuvalov.

He predicts that the territories of Veliky Novgorod and Petrozavodsk will also be at the mercy of the cyclone.

According to the chief weather forecaster of the Northern capital, Alexander Kolesov, the precipitation zone has already approached the southeast of the Leningrad region. “In about six more hours the snow will reach St. Petersburg. Since the city is large, the start of snow can be expected between 16-18 hours,” predicts Kolesov.

According to his forecast, heavy snow will not escape St. Petersburg – by the evening it will fall intensely. “But the final picture will be visible tomorrow morning, when the atmospheric front ends its influence, moving into Finland,” the forecaster added. He warned that by the beginning of the night 7-10 cm of snow would fall, and the situation on the roads would be difficult because snowstorms would begin. You should also expect increased winds – northeast wind gusts throughout the entire territory of up to 15-18 m/s. The air temperature will be around -3 degrees.

Forecasters also note that in the central regions of Russia from Bryansk to Vladimir, precipitation will also continue. In the south of the country, where the storm is already raging, temperatures will be low during the day and precipitation will almost stop, the forecaster noted. According to his forecast, the wind speed will drop to 5-10 m/s, with gusts up to 15 m/s. However, Shuvalov warns that the next southern cyclone will approach in the evening, there will be precipitation again, wind gusts will reach 20-25 m/s, on the capes – up to 28 m/s.

On Thursday and Friday the weather in the south will be calmer.
