Social facilities will be built in the Baltic Pearl instead of commercial development. As RosBalt was informed by the press service of the St. Petersburg administration, at a meeting on the development of the territory along the coastline of the Gulf of Finland in the area of Admiral Cherokova Street, Governor Alexander Beglov instructed to change the purpose of the territories previously intended for residential development. Now there are plans to build a school, three kindergartens, a sports and recreation complex and a cultural and leisure center. These objects will be included in the targeted investment program.

“We will not develop this territory with housing. This is the right, smart decision. We need to take care of the residents. Starting from 2025, we will switch to planned construction of social facilities. Until then, we will eliminate the accumulated deficit. We carry out national projects. We will build at the expense of the budget,” the governor noted.

He also instructed to accelerate the construction of social facilities already planned in the targeted investment program for 2023 and the planning period of 2024 and 2025 on the territory of the Baltic Pearl multifunctional complex. The construction of two kindergartens for 110 and 305 places will be completed in 2025, and two schools for 825 and 1,125 places will be ready in 2026.

In addition, Alexander Beglov instructed to complete the improvement of public space near Pearl Beach by September 1, 2024.

“Residents asked to preserve the recreation area on the shore of the bay. To do this, we changed the alignment of the road passing here. As soon as the weather permits, we will begin landscaping the coastline. We will create a public space with a beach, where you can walk, relax, sit with your children, and admire the water all year round,” the governor said.

As RosBalt was informed by the press service of Smolny, during public discussions, St. Petersburg residents expressed their desire to have lighting on the beach and install the maximum possible number of benches and sun loungers. All this is taken into account in the work project. The territory will also have safe walking routes, bicycle parking, swings, a playground for children, quiet and beach recreation areas, and a toilet. To ensure security, video surveillance will be installed throughout the entire territory.

The improvement is carried out as part of the regional project “Formation of a comfortable urban environment” for 2024.
