The final of the Russian championship “Professionals” solemnly started in St. Petersburg

The grand opening of the first Russian final of the professional skills championship “Professionals” took place at the Expoforum convention and exhibition center in St. Petersburg. Representatives from 62 Russian regions and 11 friendly countries – Belarus, India, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, China, Vietnam, Uganda, the Philippines and the UAE – will take part in the competition. A total of 687 competitors will compete in the main and junior age groups.

Opening the forum, Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov emphasized its importance for both Russian education and the economy as a whole. “This is a new important stage in the development of secondary vocational education in our country. The orientation of the areas in which the championship is taking place is working specialties, these are the areas that are in demand in today’s economy,” the minister noted. He also thanked St. Petersburg and personally the head of the city, Alexander Beglov, for the excellent organization of such a large-scale event.

In turn, the governor of the Northern capital, recalling President Vladimir Putin’s order to train “about a million blue-collar specialists for key sectors of the domestic economy” in five years, expressed confidence that the championship will be an important milestone in solving this task, which is so necessary to ensure full development of the country. “Our task is technological leadership. The country and the city have all the opportunities for this. But to solve problems of particular complexity, highly qualified personnel are needed. Strong, smart, responsible, bright. These are the guys who came to this competition,” Beglov emphasized.

During the finals of the championship, which will last until November 28, the Expoforum pavilions turned into workshops and professional sites where young professionals, students of technical schools and colleges, additional education institutions, as well as schoolchildren will demonstrate their skills. Their professionalism will be assessed by 526 experts.

For the competition, the competitors were given 55 competencies. Among them are car and drone repair, information security, robotics, turning and metalworking, neural networks and big data, chemical analysis, air transport service, software solutions for business, bioprosthetics and many others.

In addition, participants will be able to get acquainted with the best experience of professional training in St. Petersburg, visit leading enterprises of the Northern capital, study the most modern production and service technologies in various sectors of the economy, and also personally try out the work of new technologies at the stands of the exhibition program.

St. Petersburg in the finals of “Professionals” is represented by the largest team – 62 finalists, who previously successfully passed the qualifying and regional stages of the competition. Among them are 42 competitors in the main category and 20 in the junior category. It is noteworthy that St. Petersburg residents traditionally find themselves among the winners of Russian and international competitions and championships of professional competencies and skills, and the participants in the finals of the “Professionals” championship hope that they will be able to continue and develop this tradition.
