Doctors give suggestions to avoid diseases due to the change of season

Good lifestyle, sleep well, have a lot of ventilation, between observations of the specialists.

The first drizzles began to appear in sectors of Guayaquil and mosquitoes appear. In the midst of the transition from summer to winter, sudden changes in temperature can lead to respiratory disorders. That is why health specialists present their recommendations to avoid contracting diseases at this time of year.

Pediatrician Bosco Alcívar commented that you have to try to have a good lifestyle, have a lot of ventilation so that the air can circulate and keep the home clean. He advises removing objects that accumulate dust, avoiding smoking, doing physical activity and receiving a minimum of ten minutes of sun, before ten in the morning and after four in the afternoon. “Too much sun is bad, but not receiving it is worse,” said the specialist.

To strengthen the immune system, Alcívar said that the main thing is to sleep well, because otherwise people will not have a good rhythm of life. Eating high-fiber foods regularly is key. “The fiber generally always goes to the garbage can or there is residue left on the knife. We have orange, watermelon and tangerine juice; in the pulp is the fiber ”, he said.

He added that the ideal would be to sleep without having the air conditioners on, leaving the windows open to receive more ventilation and oxygenation. “People think that cleaning is chlorine and ozone machines, but the clean place is where the air circulates well. The floor must have the least amount of dusty objects, ”he said.

Carlos Salazar, pediatrician at the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital in Guayaquil, mentioned that children must be well fed, have a daily toilet and a complete vaccination schedule. “The children now do not have the chip to use the mask. In some way, the use of the mask will not only protect them from COVID-19, but also from respiratory infections like influenza “.

In the case of lactating children, under 6 months, Salazar suggests maintaining exclusive breastfeeding, which will strengthen the immune system.

“Now with this heat and rain we are locked up at work or at home, air circulation is reduced and there are many places where the air conditioners are turned on. Added to this, in the winter season there are many respiratory infections: it is enough for a person to have the flu for them to be able to transmit the virus to others, ”Salazar added.

He also stressed that parents along with their children should attend medical check-up appointments, avoiding self-medication and prioritizing the doctor’s criteria.

Francisco Andino, general manager of the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital, affirmed that the illnesses of the winter period are different, among them, the H1N1 flu, influenza and outbreaks of COVID-19; they are viral, fungal and bacterial, in relation to changes in temperature and humidity.

He recommended not to eat foods of doubtful elaboration, to drink boiled water and constant hand washing. (I)
