It has been just over 24 hours since President Daniel Noboa took office, and his ministers are already beginning efforts at the risk of losing popularity, but forced to act with economic and social responsibility.

The Minister of Labor, Ivonne Núñez, was invited this Friday, November 24, to the third meeting of the National Council for Work and Wages (CNTS) in the process of defining the single basic wage for 2024. The determination is unpleasant, given the differences in the proposals of employees and employers, not taking into account that in the last two years the decision was made by the previous Government in accordance with a political promise and not a technical analysis as demanded by the business and industrial sector of Ecuador.

The challenge is to find a middle ground that is not a burden that limits job growth and at the same time allows workers to improve their economy.

Minister of Labor Daniela Noboe continues the analysis of the basic salary for 2024

All that will increase with the adjustment of the basic salary in Ecuador

Improving income will always be the aspiration of all Ecuadorians; Agreements on the determination of the salary were rarely seen in the light of day and in the end it is the executive power that determines it. During Guillermo Lasso’s term, $25 was collected annually in an effort to fulfill a campaign promise of $500 by the end of the term, but the period was not met due to the death on the cross ordered on December 17. May 2023. Now Noboa’s regime takes the lead in discussions with two approaches at the Council table

National Labor and Wages: Workers are asking for the wage to be equal to the cost of the vital basket, which stood at $552.01 in October this year, while employers are talking about an increase of $4.12, based on INEC’s technical parameters and economic forecasts.

Achieving healthy solutions requires the commitment of the parties. The state needs responsibility like never before, and those who now have to make decisions must act within that framework. (OR)
