The heads of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives are ready to work with the Joe Biden administration to impose “new serious sanctions” against Russia if the latter invades Ukraine. Committee chairman Gregory Meeks (New York Democrat) and Senior Republican Michael McCall (Texas) said this, adding that support for Ukraine’s sovereignty enjoys equal support from both parties.
Both congressmen are in favor of sending additional military equipment to Ukraine and oppose any concessions to the detriment of NATO’s positions in the east.
Previously, similar warnings were made by other US leaders, including President Joe Biden and the head of the State Department Anthony Blinken. At the same time, they emphasize that they count on the support of the EU countries.
The hypothetical preparation of Russia for the invasion of Ukraine has not left the pages of the world media over the past month and a half. One of the proofs is satellite images, allegedly capturing the movement of military equipment and troops in the border regions. At the same time, both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the sanctions against Russian energy companies and the shutdown of the Swift system of “fast” financial settlements are named as a set of sanctions.
