Russians were warned about rising utility prices

Russian authorities have approved the limits to which regions can increase utility tariffs in 2024. According to the document, prices for housing and communal services will not change in the first half of the year, but from the second half of the year all regions will experience an increase, the Prime agency notes.

According to the approved rules, from the second half of 2024, utility bills will increase from 4 to 15%, but the increase may be less, since the region itself decides whether to increase the price.

According to Russian laws, prices for utility services are controlled by the state, and they can only be increased within the framework of an index determined by the government. Moreover, each region has its own index. Thus, from July 1, 2024, in St. Petersburg, housing and communal services fees will increase on average by 9.8%, in Moscow – by 11%, in the Moscow region and the Leningrad region – by 10%. Prices for housing and communal services will increase significantly in the Omsk region and North Ossetia – by 14 and 13.7%, respectively. The approved limits will be in effect for at least three years, until 2028.

In general, as a result of the increase in indices, bills for housing and communal services will increase by 10-11% or 520-580 rubles on average across the country, predicts Associate Professor of the Basic Department of Financial Control, Analysis and Audit of the Main Control Department of the City of Moscow, REU. G. V. Plekhanov Dmitry Osyanin.

The last time tariffs were increased was in December last year.
