18-year-old Tural Mamedov, who is the leader of an ethnic group that attacked random passers-by in St. Petersburg, was extradited from Azerbaijan to Russia.
The teenagers, who recorded beatings of passers-by on mobile phones and then posted shocking content on the Internet, called themselves the “Azerbaijani mafia.”
After a number of Mamedov’s accomplices were detained, he hid from investigation in Azerbaijan. The court arrested the young man in absentia and he was put on the international wanted list. The suspect has already been handed over to the Russian side.
“At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, the competent authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan extradited Tural Mamedov to face criminal charges,” the main supervisory agency of Russia said in a statement.
Investigators believe that Mamedov, together with his accomplices, publicly called for the use of violence against passers-by and beat them.
Currently, the criminal case of a criminal youth group is being investigated under Part 2 of Art. 213, paragraph “a”, part 2, art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism, incitement to hatred and enmity). Law enforcement officers detained 11 people, including natives of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan. He chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
The investigation believes that they, “acting together by prior conspiracy,” “using violence, acting out of hooligan motives, and also out of hatred and enmity, attacked local residents, provoking fights in public places.”
