Interprovincial bus lost track in the sector known as the Y de Huambi. The impact also affected utility poles that immediately collapsed.
A bus from the Loja transport cooperative lost track and overturned in the sector known as Y de Huambi, in the Sucúa canton, in Morona Santiago.
That caused the death of 18 people and injured another 25 according to the information that the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) gave to ECU911, according to an official statement from the latter entity that was known on the morning of December 12.
At first there were 15 deaths, then people in the sector or who also provided help said that the victims had risen to more than 20.
However, the ECU911 specifies that at the moment there are 18 fatalities of this new tragedy on the roads of Ecuador.
The accident occurred on the night of Saturday, December 11, before 8:00 p.m. in the so-called Troncal Amazónica, in the Sucúa-Logroño section, where the bus that provides the interprovincial transport service crashed.
It was known that the bus unit covered the Macas-Loja route.
According to witnesses, the impact would have been so strong that several utility poles collapsed at the time of the crash.
The sector even ran out of electricity. From ECU911 Macas, it was immediately reported that attention was being coordinated with firefighters from Sucúa and Morona, the Ministry of Public Health and the National Police.
Several wounded, among men, women, adults and children, were transferred to nearby health homes. (I)
