Those who want to lose weight sometimes use the most risky diets and go for experiments that can lead to loss of health, nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg told Vechernaya Moskva.

According to the specialist, strict diets can lead to insomnia and nervous breakdowns. In addition, the gastrointestinal tract suffers, since during weight loss the internal processes of digestion do not stop, juices continue to be released in the esophagus, and there is nothing there to break down, so the stomach begins to “digest itself.”

In addition, diets can provoke disturbances in electrolyte metabolism, and this is fraught with disturbances in vascular tone and sudden jumps in blood pressure, and ultimately can even lead to cardiac arrest. Also, particularly strict diets increase the risk of stone formation in the kidneys and gall bladder, but the most serious consequences that a strict diet can lead to are anorexia or bulimia.

At the same time, the specialist highlighted the two most dangerous diets that can cause serious harm to health. One of them is the Pierre Dukan diet, which involves a complete abstinence from carbohydrates. This restriction can lead to gout and the formation of gallstones and kidney stones due to the high concentration of protein.

No less dangerous is a starvation diet, when a person completely refuses to eat for a while. “This method of losing weight leads to many unpleasant consequences – from breakdowns to anorexia,” warns the nutritionist.
