In ten days, on November 23, Daniel Noboa Azín will take over as President of the Republic. The extraordinary period to which he was elected will end on May 24, 2025. Expectations regarding his administration are very high due to the historical conditions of his appointment and the circumstances in Ecuador itself.
The president must take responsibility for every decision of his government, which will have positive or negative effects on Ecuadorians. Delicacy, prudence, responsibility and efficiency in the appointment of those who follow him in the Cabinet are therefore of relevant importance. Of the twenty ministries and ten senior secretaries, for which she must choose the holders, she announced eight ministers and two secretaries.
The social and economic crisis forces all sectors to contribute to make the Nobo period positive. His success must be a benefit to Ecuadorians. This is not the time to put partisan or personal interests first, beyond the legitimate aspirations that parties or individuals may have, including those already expressed by the President-elect himself. For sure, the voters of 2025 will expect the actions of every political actor at this moment. Selfishness should not play a role when politicians, businessmen, unions and citizens must align with the priority needs of Ecuador.
In this context, of course, Noboa is the bearer of responsibility, starting with the formation of his cabinet, where currently his youngest minister is the Minister of the Environment at 26 years old, and the oldest is his Chief Secretary for Communications (63), experienced in marketing and political communication strategy and campaigning.
Characteristics such as age should not be the most important. It requires ability, honesty, determination, a true spirit of service. A lot depends on who Noboa chooses as his success for the good of Ecuador and its political future. And just as important as that will be the transparent agreements reached with the Assembly. (OR)
