Tourists from Russia on bicycles have stopped being allowed through automobile checkpoints on the Russian-Finnish border since November 9, media reports citing eyewitnesses.
We are talking about the Svetogorsk automobile checkpoint located in the southeast (Imatra on the Finnish side), the closest checkpoint to St. Petersburg, Brusnichnoye (Nuyamaa), and the most popular checkpoint among tourists, Torfyanovka (Vaalimaa). ).
As RIA Novosti reports, Finnish border guards at the Vaalimaa checkpoint confirmed the ban on the passage of people on bicycles from the Russian side, but could not explain whether it applies to the remaining six checkpoints or concerns only the South-Eastern region. They also refused to explain the reasons for the new ban.
It is noteworthy that the website of the Finnish Border Guard does not contain data on the ban on the entry of cyclists. Of the latest documents, only a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about a “strong restriction” from September 30 on the entry of Russians into Finland, introduced by a “principled decision of the government,” was posted there, as well as a release from the country’s Foreign Ministry about a ban on the import of passenger cars registered in Russia for everyone except citizens of the European Union and members of their families, diplomats permanently residing in the Russian Federation and people moving for humanitarian reasons, which came into force on the night of September 16.
