Experts have named the best hangover remedies. Sally Adams, a professor of health psychology at the University of Bath, says there is nothing better in this state than fatty bacon, eggs and broccoli.
He explained that these foods contain an amino acid called cysteine, which can reduce the amount of the toxic chemical acetaldehyde, which is produced when alcohol is metabolized in the body. It is this substance that causes the main symptoms of a hangover – heart palpitations and nausea.
At the same time, other British doctors add that vegetables, soups and broths will help fight dehydration. According to experts, for a hangover, the body requires water and electrolytes – sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium. Bananas, avocados, nuts, and sweet potatoes are excellent sources of potassium. Low-sugar drinks with electrolytes can also be helpful, especially if the hangover has caused vomiting or diarrhea.
At the same time, scientists called the consumption of large amounts of water to prevent or treat a hangover a myth, explaining that the speed with which the body gets rid of the produced toxins cannot be changed. Also, in their opinion, the statement that it is better not to eat heavy food, such as meat or sausages, is incorrect, because it is allegedly difficult for the stomach to digest. What you really need to do is reduce your consumption of dark colored beverages, as they contain natural chemicals – congeners – formed during fermentation. They irritate blood vessels and brain tissue and can worsen hangovers, the scientists explained.
