Ksenia Sharaeva, an otolaryngologist at the Central Clinical Hospital with the outpatient department of the President of the Russian Federation, told how you can cure a runny nose without using drops.
The doctor advises using a saline solution to relieve nasal congestion, humidifying the air in the room and drinking more fluids. “Thanks to this, the mucous membrane will become more moisturized, and it will be easier for the eyelashes of the nose to work. The contents themselves will become more liquid, which will make the process of blowing your nose easier,” Sharaeva explained in an interview with Moscow 24.
The ENT doctor also described the correct technique for rinsing the nose. So, according to her, you can’t throw your head back too much, pour the saline solution into one nostril and wait for it to flow out of the other. “This is fraught with complications – for example, otitis media, since the drug can get into the auditory tube,” the specialist warned. When rinsing your nose, she recommends tilting your head slightly forward and pouring plenty of salt water into your nose.
In addition, it is important to blow your nose correctly – each nostril separately and not very forcefully. Sharaeva called for using only disposable scarves. She allowed the use of vasoconstrictor drops for severe runny nose and severe nasal congestion, which interferes with sleep.
Earlier, endocrinologist Natalia Tananakina called a “miracle” product that protects against depression.
