The Gamaleya Center has assembled a vaccine construct against omicron and isolated this strain from infected Russians

The National Research Center (SIC) for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya has assembled a vaccine design against the new omicron coronavirus strain. RIA Novosti was told about this by the director of the center, Alexander Gintsburg.

He also said that the center’s specialists received a sample of the omicron strain from infected Russians who had previously returned to Russia from South Africa.

At the same time Gunzburg noted that these patients with “omicron” had previously been vaccinated, and now the disease is mild.

Let us remind you that earlier the deputy head of the SIC Denis Logunov doubted the adequacy of the statements about the “lightness” of the omicron. According to him, people with immunity get sick easily, but it is not yet known how others, in particular, the elderly, will tolerate it.

Add, a new strain of coronavirus B.1.1.529, which contains 32 mutations in the S-protein, was first identified in South Africa and Botswana in early November. The infected were found in Hong Kong, Belgium, Israel. At an emergency meeting on November 26, the World Health Organization recognized B.1.1.529 as “of concern” and named it “omicron” after the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet. Omicron has a large number of mutations, it also spreads faster than the delta type. A new strain of coronavirus with increased mobility has been found in more than 55 countries, including Russia.
