AFP: Israeli tanks approached Gaza City

Israeli tanks approached Gaza City. The equipment blocked a key road connecting the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, AFP reports, citing eyewitnesses.

The day before, the Israeli army announced that it had expanded ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip. “Additional forces entered the enclave, including armored and engineer troops, as well as artillery,” noted IDF spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

The Israeli military noted that fighting continued in the enclave throughout the night. According to the IDF, dozens of terrorists who barricaded themselves in buildings and tunnels and tried to attack the troops were killed. The military also reported striking more than 600 Hamas targets, including weapons depots, launch sites, hideouts and staging areas.

Let us recall that the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict began on October 7 after Hamas rocket attacks on Israeli territory and the capture of a number of settlements bordering the Gaza Strip. More than 1.4 thousand Israelis were killed, most of them civilians. Hamas militants also took a large number of hostages. According to Gaza’s health ministry, about 8,000 people have been killed in the strip since Israeli bombing began. According to WHO, 40% of the dead were children. Currently, the Gaza Strip is blocked – there is no electricity, no Internet, and the supply of heat and water has been interrupted.
