American actress Angelina Jolie decided to express her position regarding the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement. She published a statement on her social network page.
The actress noted that she does not support either side. She said she felt “furious and sickened” by the suffering of civilians on both sides. “What happened in Israel is an act of terrorism. But this cannot justify how many innocent lives were suffered due to the bombing of civilians in Gaza,” the actress said.
Commenting on the blockade in the Gaza Strip, she emphasized that “the population has nowhere to run, people have no access to food and water, there is no way to evacuate, they are deprived of even the simple human right to cross the border to seek refuge.”
The actress called for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons. “The lives of Palestinians and Israelis, like the lives of all people around the world, are of equal value,” Jolie concluded.
Let us recall that the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict began on October 7 after Hamas rocket attacks on Israeli territory and the capture of a number of settlements bordering the Gaza Strip. More than 1.4 thousand Israelis were killed, most of them civilians. Hamas militants also took a large number of hostages. According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 7,600 people have been killed in the strip since Israeli bombing began. On Friday, the WHO said 40% of the dead were children. Currently, the Gaza Strip is blocked – there is no electricity, no Internet, and the supply of heat and water has been interrupted.
