There is no longer a political dialogue between Russia and the European Union; only working contacts that are of a technical nature remain. This was reported by the Russian Permanent Mission to the EU, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
According to the diplomatic mission, after the start of the North Eastern Military District, the European Union and Russia do not have full-fledged cooperation even in the cultural sphere. “In the current conditions, we have no one to strengthen cultural cooperation with,” the permanent mission noted.
They added that working contacts are maintained with European structures to discuss and resolve technical issues, for example, regarding the functioning of the Russian foreign office in Brussels and the EU diplomatic mission in Moscow.
At the same time, the Russian mission continues its work in Belgium, although in the spring of 2022 Brussels expelled 19 employees of the permanent mission, the service added.
The media cites the opinion of European Deputy Gunnar Beck, who noted that an improvement in political relations between Russia and the European Union is unlikely in the near future. To finally resolve the Ukrainian conflict, Russia and the EU will need to find a compromise. At the same time, Moscow will be expected to take steps forward, which could, for example, relate to Ukraine’s rapprochement with the EU, Beck is sure.
