What candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent?

Second Sunday of Advent

The second Sunday is centered on the figure of John the Baptist and the message is that of patience and active preparation for the coming of the Lord.

Third Sunday of Advent

The third Sunday, also centered on the Baptist, guides us with more force towards the joy of the very near coming. The candle for the third Sunday of Advent is pink and represents joy. This candle corresponds to this Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Finally, andhe fourth Sunday contemplates the mystery of the Incarnation of God in Mary; the message: a deep preparation of the mystery of Christmas.

The candle for the fourth Sunday of Advent that will be lit at Christmas should be white. In this way, the birth of Jesus is illuminated in purity. It is known as the “candle of Christ.”

Despite this popularly known order, other believers prefer to use three purple candles and one pink one. In addition, they add a fifth white candle. (I)
