The European Commission (EC) announced on Tuesday the allocation of 1.5 billion euros to Ukraine as part of a macro-financial assistance package, the volume of which amounts to 18 billion euros for 2023.
“The EU’s support for Ukraine is unwavering. We have paid another 1.5 billion euros in financial assistance to Ukraine. With this new payment, our total assistance to Ukraine reaches almost 83 billion euros. In addition, the European Commission has proposed up to 50 billion euros for subsequent years until 2027,” the EC communiqué quotes European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as saying.
The document reports that with the latest tranche of 1.5 billion euros, Ukraine received 15 billion euros this year, which goes to cover its “urgent financing needs thanks to stable, predictable and significant financial support,” Interfax writes.
This support, Brussels explains, will help Ukraine continue to pay wages and pensions and provide basic government services such as hospitals, schools and housing for displaced people, as well as maintain macroeconomic stability and restore critical infrastructure, including energy, water supply systems, and transport networks. , roads and bridges.
The latest payment, according to the European Commission, was made after the EC stated on October 18 that “Ukraine continues to make satisfactory progress in meeting the agreed conditions and complies with reporting requirements, which are aimed at ensuring the transparent and efficient use of funds.”
