The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed to establish centralized conduct of regional government procurement and strengthen responsibility for the theft of budget funds to minimize the risks of corruption crimes.

Deputy Head of the Department for Combating Corruption-related Crimes in the Use and Distribution of Budget Funds of the Main Directorate of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Dmitry Matveev, speaking on Monday at a meeting on the prevention and prevention of corruption offenses in the field of public procurement in the Federation Council, reported an almost twofold increase in the number crimes in this area, Interfax reports.

“If in 2017-2018 there were 500-600 crimes in the field of public procurement, then over the years their number has increased. Already in 2022 they (number – IF) There have already been more than 1.1 thousand corruption criminal cases – their share is 738 out of 1.1 thousand, of which only 133 are cases of bribery. The damage amounted to more than 6 billion rubles,” Matveev said.

In this regard, he proposed changing the system of government procurement of goods to regional institutions. In addition, a representative of the department said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs “insists on strengthening responsibility for the theft of budget funds, because the theft of a million or two or three billion (rubles) are different things, but the responsibility is the same.”
