The main threats to Russia are a possible attack by the Taliban (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation – approx. ed.) on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Japan’s plans for the Kuril Islands and a possible war between Ukraine and Belarus. Former Minister of Defense of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Igor Strelkov said this in an interview with Info24.
According to him, this region – the border of Afghanistan with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan – “is quite dangerous, but the explosion there will not happen now, but a little later.”
“Let me remind you that Moscow has agreements with Tashkent and Dushanbe within the framework of the CSTO, and the Taliban will inevitably expand their territory to the north,” the source said.
In his opinion, “the Belarusian direction, namely the border with Ukraine, is also dangerous.
“It is not ruled out that a Belarusian-Ukrainian conflict will emerge, of course, at the initiative of Kiev,” he added.
Strelkov also recalled Japan’s long-standing claims to the Kuril Islands. According to him, the leaders of many large Japanese parties openly call for “solving in any way” the issue of the Kuril Islands. The interlocutor of the publication pointed out that the Japanese fleet is “an order of magnitude stronger” than the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, so this should be taken seriously.
