Israel Defense Forces spokesman Jonathan Conricus condemned people who participate in rallies in support of Palestine. He made the statement in an interview with the Australian ABC.
“I think the people involved in anti-Israel protests are either ignorant of what’s going on in the Gaza Strip or are full of hatred toward Israel because of things that have nothing to do with what’s happening in Gaza right now,” Conricus said.
In his opinion, “supporting Hamas means being on the side of terrorists.”
Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas noted that the Islamist movement Hamas is not the legitimate representative of all Palestinians. He also asked for assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip who were caught in a hostage situation amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, and called for an end to Israel’s aggressive actions against the Palestinians. US President Joe Biden expressed a similar position. He spoke out for the existence of a Palestinian state and against the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip, CBS reported. Biden said Israel’s occupation of the Gaza Strip would be a “big mistake,” adding that Hamas does not represent the entire Palestinian people.
Let us remind you that the conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated on October 7. On this day, the Palestinian movement attacked Israeli territory with hundreds of rockets and captured several populated areas. Israel launched a retaliatory operation by blockading the Gaza Strip. Preparations for ground operations are currently underway.
