Doctors explain why it is dangerous to sit on the toilet for a long time

Sitting on the toilet for a long time is harmful. This was stated by proctologist Konstantin Korshunov, reports Infoforrme magazine. The doctor noted that normally, going to the toilet should not take more than 5 minutes, but some people do not fit into this time frame.

According to the doctor, people suffering from constipation, as well as those who like to read books or rummage through their phones while sitting on the toilet, can sit on the toilet for a long time. Such a habit can very easily cause harm, the doctor warned. He explained that instinctively the body continues to push even after a bowel movement if the person is still sitting on the potty. And this leads to blood flow to the hemorrhoidal plexuses, which, if repeated regularly, can lead to the formation of hemorrhoids.

According to doctors quoted by MedicForum, sitting on the toilet for a long time also causes your legs to go numb. This is a sign that the sciatic nerve is being compressed and the blood circulation is being impaired. Sitting on the toilet for more than 15 minutes every day can cause sensory nerve endings in the rectum to malfunction. Moreover, for men, such a habit can cause stagnation in the pelvis, the occurrence of prostatitis and erectile dysfunction, and varicose veins of the spermatic cord. For women, this risks inflammation of the genitourinary system and cystitis, doctors warn.
