Rosstat on Friday evening published a new demographic forecast for the Russian Federation until the end of 2045, calculated taking into account the results of the All-Russian Population Census, which was conducted in October – November 2021.
As of January 1, 2023, 146.45 million people lived in Russia. By January 1, 2046, according to Rosstat, the country’s population will decrease to 138.77 million people.
Rosstat notes that the demographic forecast was compiled without taking into account the population living in four new regions of Russia, Interfax reports.
According to the forecast of Rosstat, the population in the Russian Federation in 2024–2032 will decline by more than 400 thousand people per year, including the natural population decline in these years will exceed 600 thousand people per year, and in some years even 700 thousand . people, migration growth throughout the forecast period is set in the range of 210-230 thousand people per year.
Starting in 2033, according to Rosstat’s forecast, the country’s population will decline at a rate of less than 400 thousand people per year (due to the slowdown in natural population decline), in 2042–2045 – by less than 200 thousand people per year.
According to Rosstat’s forecast, the population of the Russian Federation will decrease to less than 145 million people in 2026, to less than 143 million people in 2030, to less than 140 million people in 2039.
Life expectancy, according to Rosstat, will be 73.1 years in 2023 (the previously published value for 2022 was 72.7 years). In 2045, life expectancy will rise to 79.8 years. At the same time, life expectancy for women, according to Rosstat, will be 83.2 years in 2045, and for men – 75.9 years.
