“He stole 600 million and fled from Russia”: the former top manager of Roscosmos was put on the wanted list

Former top manager of Roscosmos Vladimir Meshkov has been put on the wanted list. In Russia, he is suspected of embezzling 600 million rubles, the Kommersant newspaper writes, citing materials from investigative authorities.

41-year-old Meshkov, as the media learned, fled abroad.

A criminal case against Meshkov was initiated in January 2019 after an inspection by the Prosecutor General’s Office. Investigators caught him in a particularly large-scale fraud – the theft of more than 600 million rubles allocated from the budget for the reconstruction of the test bench base of the Scientific Testing Center of the Rocket and Space Industry – the parent organization of Roscosmos for fire testing of liquid rocket engines.

According to the court decision, Meshkov was arrested for two months – the period will be counted from the moment of his extradition from abroad or his detention on Russian territory.

Previously, Meshkov served as deputy head of the department of the office of the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the Volga Federal District, worked as deputy director of the department of housing and communal services of the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia, assistant to the head of the Ministry of Construction, and in 2016 he moved to Roscosmos, where he was an adviser to the general director, held the position of Deputy Head of the Department for Interaction with Government Bodies of the Subjects of Russia and Local Government Bodies of the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Volga Federal District.
