The St. Petersburg Pediatric Medical University warned about a possible triple epidemic of viruses in Russia in the current respiratory season, the so-called tridemic.
Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Adults and Epidemiology Elena Esaulenko predicted an epidemic of seasonal viruses, influenza and COVID-19. “The development of serious diseases, the addition of bacterial infections, the exacerbation of chronic diseases is possible,” the press service of the Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University quotes her speech at the conference “New Season – Old Problems.”
In turn, Vladimir Nikiforov, head of the department of infectious diseases of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, commenting on this forecast, said that so far nothing foretells a triple epidemic in Russia.
According to him, RIA Novosti reports, we are not talking about three epidemics of different viruses – coronavirus, ARVI and influenza – but about the usual epidemic seasonal rise in incidence, which happens in the country every year. “We have now begun a new epidemic season, it happens every year. There is nothing extraordinary in this,” the doctor reassured.
Earlier, immunologist Evgenia Parshina spoke about the dangers of treating influenza with folk remedies.
